Our History
Fortem Equities was founded by Edmund H C, a philanthropist best known for creating opportunities for entrepreneurship. Our company employs an industry-agnostic, hands-off investment approach to build a portfolio of non-controlling positions in seed-stage companies, with our current portfolio comprising over 600,000 direct investments.
The Hunter family, with a background in the financial services industry focusing on wealth management, specializes in fund management. Our expertise centers around investment strategy, portfolio construction, asset allocation, and product choice.
We cover various asset classes, including traditional assets like Canadian and international shares, property, fixed interest (including term deposits), and cash. Additionally, we delve into alternative growth assets such as commodities (including gold), infrastructure, and private equity, as well as alternative defensive assets like hedge funds, private high-yield debt, and credit exposure.
Edmund's career spans some 20 years in wealth management, with experience in international investment banks, domestic private banks, listed companies, and privately held investment firms. His knowledge encompasses product research, model portfolio construction, asset allocation, performance attribution, effective market exposure, risk management, and execution across traditional asset classes, both listed and unlisted, as well as alternative assets involving infrastructure, commodities, foreign exchange, managed futures, and hedge funds. He has been involved in various structures, including single-manager, multi-manager products, and direct investments in shares, property, and debt securities.
In addition to his financial services experience, Edmund possesses extensive skills in treasury-related disciplines, having worked for several domestic and foreign-owned investment banks.
